Entrepreneurial Speed Dating
Entrepreneurial Speed Dating will focus on connecting like-minded individuals with innovative mindsets and relevant skills. The main objective of this event is to bridge the gap between concept and those equipped with the skills to enable a transition from vision to reality! The speed-dating format can prove to be effective and useful beyond the search for a significant other. This dynamic will aid in helping to foster a stronger, more resourceful community for startup entrepreneurs in the State College area. This event will limit interactions to roughly four minutes, where entrepreneurs are able to pitch their ventures or skills in hopes of finding a team where their unique innovations, skillsets and perspectives will fit and be valued. It is challenging to get to know someone in four minutes, but one can definitely get a glimpse of that entrepreneurial fire! Regardless of if individuals are pursing ventures that are pre-revenue or pre-launch, this is an opportunity to facilitate an environment that connects entrepreneurs to other talent, in the case they are looking towards team expansion.

Pursuing a startup or new venture is no small task and entrepreneurs no matter how hard we try, simply will require help from other talent in order to make the venture as successful and productive as can be. Being that State College is a small region yet is home to a rather large population, there are undoubtably students and leaders in the Penn State ecosystem along with the general State College area that are seeking new talent to join their team or wish to get involved with the startup realm. Resources to facilitate this kind of peer-to-peer collaboration - from Innoblue’s perspective - appear to be lacking in the community and we hope this event can serve as a remedy.

Registration is not required for this event. To view the event, please visit: https://us04web.zoom.us/j/77747495514?pwd=VTNkUDVZTStXeEgyOEFua0EyWUlDdz09. Please use Meeting ID: 777 4749 5514 and Passcode: 4MWTCL.

Nonprofits, AI, and the Greater Good
Join the Nittany AI Alliance for an evening of exploration as they engage an expert panel in a discussion of the current challenges facing nonprofits and how AI could be used to address those challenges. You will hear from subject matter experts who have a deep understanding of nonprofits as well as AI experts who will talk about how this technology might be applied to address those challenges. There will also be plenty of time for Q&A during this event.

Who should attend?
We highly encourage nonprofits, NGOs, and Penn State students to attend this session and engage in the conversation by asking questions of the panel.

Why should you attend?
You are someone who wants to make a difference in your community by helping those who are on the “front lines” providing critical assistance to communities.

AI for Good is the philosophy that guides and shapes Nittany AI Alliance’s work to advance artificial intelligence to make the world a better place. This work falls under one of four pillars aligned with Penn State’s resources and expertise — education, environment, health, or humanitarianism. This event is focused on the humanitarianism pillar.

The Financial Ecosystem and Black Businesses and Entrepreneurs
While small businesses represent a significant portion of the economy, there is mounting evidence that the playing field is not level for minority-owned businesses seeking access to capital. Attend this session to learn about the research of Jerome Williams, Distinguished Professor and Fellow of The Center for Urban Entrepreneurship & Economic Development in the Rutgers Business School, and his colleagues who have spent 10 years mystery shopping banks to investigate lending practices and customer experience. Their results demonstrate that in almost every instance, minorities were treated more poorly than their White counterparts. To help minority business owners identify discriminatory practices, Professor Williams will present two frameworks to support the adoption of race-based criteria in evaluating bank performance, namely, Corporate Social Responsibility and Corporate Social Innovation.

Advancing Inclusive Entrepreneurial Economies through Global-to-Local Networks
Global initiatives have shown that, at the bilateral and multilateral level, they can help unlock latent entrepreneurial potential through promoting synergies across groups of people of diverse backgrounds who have complimentary sets of technical skills, problem solving approaches and linkages to various stakeholders through both professional and social networks. During this session, we will showcase some of the learnings from the role played by higher education institutions from the U.S. in global partnerships directed at cultivating social impact-driven entrepreneurial culture across the university system in the Philippines. We will highlight specific examples of university-led projects that have been successfully translated into solutions that address the needs of economically disadvantaged communities. During this session, we will also discuss the opportunity to close the loop on things through transferring back the learnings to the U.S. to expand opportunities through which low income communities can participate in university-led entrepreneurism locally.

Brands and Fans – LEGO – Building Fan Engagement
Most businesses choose to find customers via product development and promotion of those products. More and more however, business is starting to integrate the two. What if, instead promoting a new product, the product was the promotion? This shift in perspective opens up new channels for creating fanatics of our business, rather than just customers.

Intrapreneurship: Be All You Can Be!
Entrepreneurship has been a popular topic (think Shark Tank) and Penn State subject of study for nearly ten years. Although many start-ups survive the first year, less that 50% are around to reach the five-year mark according to the Small Business Administration. And now we have Covid-19.

What well established businesses are rapidly discovering is that among their employees lie ‘hidden talents’ that go beyond a lock-step job description. Intrapreneurship is the act of practicing entrepreneurial principles within a company. Many senior level company executives are now working to unlock and expand employee capabilities while encouraging those who are self-motivated and action oriented to pursue their creative and innovative ideas in order to advance a company along with the products or services they sell. But how does intrapreneurship really work and how are efforts rewarded? Are you entrepreneurially inclined but do not what to take the plunge? What kind of company do you want to work for and why? Let’s explore.
